Pressure-sensitive ion conduction in a conical channel: Optimal pressure and geometry

نویسندگان

چکیده

Using both analytic and numerical analyses of the Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations we theoretically investigate electric conductivity a conical channel, which in accordance with recent experiments exhibits strong non-linear pressure dependence. This mechanosensitive diodic behavior stems from pressure-sensitive build-up or depletion salt pore. From our results find that optimal geometry for this strongly depends on flow rate, ideal ratio tip-to-base-radii being equal to 0.22 at zero flow. With increased becomes smaller simultaneously performance weaker. Consequently an diode is obtained zero-flow, realized by applying drop proportional applied potential inverse square tip radius thereby countering electro-osmotic When deviates falls sharply, explaining dramatic mechanosensitivity observed experiments.

Numerical Investigation of Heat Transfer and Pressure Drop in a Corrugated Channel

The influence of variation in rib-height to channel-height ratio (e/H) on the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics inside a channel with corrugated upper and lower plates was investigated numerically in the present study. The governing equations were solved by using finite volume approximations for a wide range of (0.06 < e/H < 0.26) and Reynolds numbers (5400 < Re < 23000), with a m...

Ion Concentration-Dependent Ion Conduction Mechanism of a Voltage-Sensitive Potassium Channel

Voltage-sensitive potassium ion channels are essential for life, but the molecular basis of their ion conduction is not well understood. In particular, the impact of ion concentration on ion conduction has not been fully studied. We performed several micro-second molecular dynamics simulations of the pore domain of the Kv1.2 potassium channel in KCl solution at four different ion concentrations...

Effect of Calcium Channel Blockers on Intraocular Pressure in Rabbits

The objective of the study was to evaluate the antiglaucoma effect of calcium channel blockers diltiazem and verapamil. Albino rabbits were used and chronic glaucoma was induced in them using freshly prepared 150 units of alphachymotrypsin. 0.1 mL of drug solution was administered topically into the left eye whereas the right served as control. The pressure recording was carried out at 15, 30, ...

A pressure sensitive palatography: application of new pressure sensitive sheet for measuring tongue-palatal contact pressure

This paper describes a new method for measuring the tonguepalatal contact pressure using a thin pressure sensor and its application for speech research. The new pressure sensor is composed of thin pressure sensitive ink whose electrical resistance is proportional to the physical forces applied to the sensor. Several sensors were arranged on the surface of the palatal plate. This setup was used ...

Ion conduction and selectivity in acid-sensing ion channel 1

The ability of acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs) to discriminate among cations was assessed based on changes in conductance and reversal potential with ion substitution. Human ASIC1a was expressed in Xenopus laevis oocytes, and acid-induced currents were measured using two-electrode voltage clamp. Replacement of extracellular Na(+) with Li(+), K(+), Rb(+), or Cs(+) altered inward conductance an...
